Best Bets for Easter Brunch in Kansas City

Looking for Kansas City things to do? Easter time will keep you and your family hopping, with an Easter Parade in Town Square, an egg hunt in nearby Powell Gardens, and even an Easter “begg” hunt for dogs at Mill Creek Park. Having built up an appetite, check out some of the best bets for Easter brunch in and around the historic city.

Grand Street Café on Grand Avenue is the winner of multiple awards, including Best Sunday Brunch and Diner’s Choice “Great for Brunch.”  The restaurant’s current brunch menu easter_brunch_kansas_cityincludes  starters like the Grand Mimosa or Cappuccino.  Then comes a wide selection of “eggs your way,” from a simple down-home scramble to eggs Benedict, huevos rancheros and crab omelet. Hot-off-the-griddle waffles, French toast and pancakes are popular fare; other choices include roasted chicken and pork chops. For a real change of pace, the grilled salmon salad may fill the bill. The restaurant charges $15.95 per person.

About 30 miles east of Kansas City, Powell Gardens is a nonprofit botanical garden with a mission to help residents and visitors appreciate the role plants play in their lives. The facility hosts an Easter Egg hunt, followed by brunch at the onsite restaurant, Café Thyme. This year’s Easter selections from Chef Michael Foust includes a selection of made-to-order eggs prepared with ingredients largely provided by local farmers and growers. Attic-aged ham, roast beef and pork ribs are served up alongside fresh herbs and greens from Powell Gardens’ own Heartland Harvest Garden. For non-members, brunch admission is $39.95 for adults, and $16.95 for children 5-12. Children under 5 eat free.

For a touch of elegance, the Intercontinental Kansas City at the Plaza opens its rooftop ballroom for an annual Easter brunch. A raw bar with fresh seafood is the centerpiece of the meal; you’ll also find hand-carved meats, made-to-order omelets, Belgian waffles and a special children’s menu. The hotel promises that its “decadent dessert selection” will be part of this Easter feast. Admission is $48 for adults and $21 for children 5-12. Children under 5 eat free.

The Westside Local on Summit St. playfully refers to its mid-morning offerings as “blunch.” The restaurant prides itself on farm-to-table freshness, supporting local businesses. The Sunday blunch, served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., is an ala carte menu that includes a bacon, cheese & fried egg biscuit sourced from Kansas City area farmers.  Chicken dishes, steak and eggs, and veggie hash are also featured, as are an assortment of sandwiches and sides.

When listing Kansas City things to do, visiting a barbecue has to rank near the top. Arthur Bryant’s , on Brooklyn Ave., bears the name of the city’s undisputed “King of Ribs.” Presidents, movie stars and everyday folks alike flock to Arthur Bryant’s for succulent ribs prepared in signature sauce. The restaurant’s Sunday hours begin at 11 a.m., just in time for Easter brunch with a distinctly KC twist.
