Kansas City Plaza Lights 2013
The holiday season is a time for warm, fuzzy feelings and exciting events that can only be enjoyed during this special time of year. For a memory that will never be forgotten, come out and see what is considered to be the most spectacular holiday lighting display in the nation. While visiting the Best Western Plus Seville Plaza Hotel near Downtown Kansas City, what better time to plan your trip than during the festive holiday season? For a spectacle that will intrigue kids and grownups alike, this local tradition encompasses a 15-block display of holiday lights in the Country Club Plaza.
The main event will be hosted on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28th, 2013. The fun starts at 5:00pm at the Main Stage located at Nichols Road & Pennsylvania, near Brio Tuscan Grille. With pre-show performances and exciting giveaways that start the evening off, be sure to plan plenty of time to enjoy the entire event after a fulfilling Thanksgiving Dinner at one of Kansas City’s superb restaurants.
Or, if you are here to visit family members for Thanksgiving, there is no better way to enjoy some quality time together than by watching the Plaza Lighting Ceremony that is held from 6:00-7:00pm. At approx. 6:50, the Flip of the Switch will be held, and you can watch every dome, tower and window of the shopping district light up in an awe-inspiring display of shimmering, jewel-like lights.
The Flip of the Switch is followed by a beautiful display of fireworks, continuing the evening of visual beauty. Afterwards, there will be a post-ceremony concert to enjoy while viewing the spectacular holiday lights in the Spanish-inspired shopping district.
The first Plaza Lighting Ceremony was held in 1930 and has become a much-loved tradition enjoyed by locals and visitors alike. With the lights remaining in place until the season ends on Jan. 13, enjoy the special feeling that comes from shopping in the lighted district while hearing the sounds of horse’s hooves from the horse-drawn carriage and the well-known songs of carolers.
